Port Blair is the capital of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which are located in the Gulf of Bengal, east of mainland India. The city is located on the east coast of South Andaman Island and serves as the primary entrance point for visitors visiting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is a tiny city of around 100,000 inhabitants.

Port Blair is well-known for its rich cultural legacy and history. During the British colonial period, the city was utilised as a correctional colony for Indian independence fighters during the Indian Independence Movement.Nowadays, the city is home to various historical buildings and museums, including the Cellular Prison, the Anthropological Museum, and the Samudrika Navy Marine Museum, which give insight into the island’s past.

The city is also a famous tourist destination, featuring neighbouring beaches like Corbyn’s Cove Beach and wildlife reserves like the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Swimming, snorkelling, and animal viewing are among the activities available at these beaches and parks.

Port Blair is also an important economic hub for the islands, with the primary industries being fishing and agriculture. The city is home to the Andaman and Nicobar Command, the Indian Armed Forces’ only tri-service geographical command. The Andaman and Nicobar Command is in charge of the islands’ military and security, and it is a critical strategic position for India’s naval presence in the region.
